Japanese term

冷暗倉庫

Japanese to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Context: 現在香港で貸倉庫を探しています。冷暗倉庫と冷凍倉庫。

Any clues? 冷凍倉庫 would be a cold storage warehouse, so 冷暗 would differ how?

Thanks.

cool dark storage warehouse

冷暗here means cool and dark. The difference between 冷凍倉庫 and 冷暗倉庫 is that the former means a freezing (or cold) storage warehouse, where the temperature would be less than 0 C, whereas the latter would be above 0 C, where the goods would NOT be frozen.

A cool, dark storage room

冷暗所 is a "cool, dark place" in my dictionary, so it seems to me this probably means a storage room that is cool and dark but not necessarily like a fridge or freezer, whereas 冷凍倉庫 is cold storage.

cool, dark, and humidified warehouse

Compared to 冷凍(freeze)倉庫, 冷暗倉庫 stores the goods in dark, cool atmosphere, and also, where humidity is maintained (unlike refrigerators or freezers, which may also dehydrate the goods). for this reason, it is mostly used for storing vegetables or fruits.
