??? "то вам это вообще зачем?" a kakoje eto nase delo? Sprasivaty mozno sto ugodno - dlja etogo i KudoZ pridumano. Izvinite, ja ne russkaja, no eto nemnogo zvuchit grubo. Pomogaty neobjazatel'no, vopros voobse oceny interesnij.

С какой целью интересуетесь? Вам это ДЕЙСТВИТЕЛЬНО в исходнике для перевода встретилось? Если да, то дайте широкий контекст.
Если нет, то вам это вообще зачем? (Только не надо удивляться этому вопросу, ок?)

Это поговорка, которую используют для ироничной "похвалы" плохого человека. Тоесть, когда он спит и молчит - хорош, а проснется - зубы показывает (ругается, например). Я знаю, что есть вариант "Let sleeping dog lie", но, для этой есть русский эквивалент "Не буди лихо, пока тихо". Спасибо.

I believe that by saying this, you imply that a person, judging by his/her actions, may not be as good as they are considered / made out to be.

agree Vladimir Zakharov : But: "... with his/her teeth towards the wall" — this is an important part of the phrase. I believe such brilliant figures of speech deserve calquing :) Upd. Something along these lines, yes :)
