This is a question on economics taken from a set of questions to be set for students and their answers (the part in the brackets at the end is the answer to the first part). I'm not sure what "mercado de la uva a corto plazo" could mean. It's not a term that I have been able to find online, so it is possible that the author of this text - being an expert on economics, not viticulture - simply doesn't know the correct winemaking terminology.

Spot market is a common term in economics, often used e.g. for petroleum. It's no different for grapes.

: This is such a specific term that I would check with the author that this is indeed what is intended, before ruling out other suggestions. Yield isn't the only factor that determines the price of grapes… And spot market would be "mercado al contado"

Comment: "I feel that this is probably the most appropriate answer. While I agree that "al contado" is how the concept of "spot" can be expressed in Spanish, it can also be expressed, for example, as "mercado presente" (see link: http://www.eco-finanzas.com/diccionario/M/MERCADO_PRESENTE.htm). Why not also "de corto plazo"? The concepts are certainly very similar, if not identical."

Short-term grape market
Because grapes are harvested once a year, then it is a short term market, like olives and other crops. You can't sell grapes you pick today in two years' time.
I think the person who wrote the text is comparing grapes with money. During the year farmers invest in their crops - it costs money to produce them - and to make all their work worthwhile they want return on investment.
I live in a wine-producing area of Spain and the grape harvest has begun. People are concerned about the weather because rain can cause the fruit to rot, which affects the price of grapes in the market.
DEFINITION of 'Short Term'
1. In general, holding an asset for short period of time.
2. In accounting, an asset expected to be converted into cash in the next year, or a liability coming due in the next year. Also known as current assets and liabilities.
3. For investing, a security that matures in one year or less.
4. For taxes, a holding period of less that one year.
