Rail signalling maintenance operations
Not much to go on here, I'm afraid. This is an inspection report on signalling maintenance work on rail tracks in a tunnel.
I can't find anything specific for bouchons de pontage other than the literal bridge plugs. Has anyone any idea what these might be?
Many thanks.

bridging plug/short circuit plug
There are two pieces of equipment that are called "bouchon de pontage" in French:
- a tool used for oil drilling, which is called in English "bridge plug"
- an electrical connector, called in English "bridging plug". The use of "bouchon de pontage" in this case seems to be favoured by ABB, who apparently use "short-circuit plug" in English (see ref. 1 and 2)
We are here clearly in the second case, hence my proposed translation.

: I think 'bridging plug' is a more appropriate term than 'shorting...' — it is possible for it to be 'briding' without necessarily 'shorting', though of course they do usually amount to the same thing.

jumper plug
This is another commonly-used term for a special plug, used to establish temporary (usually test) connections when some piece of equipment is not connected.
