Discussion

Philippa Smith Jul 20, 2015:
@Nikki I agree with your analysis, I was thinking along the lines of "with an environmentally-friendly design" (or "eco-friendly").
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Jul 20, 2015:
Shilpa Daryo has a point. The method of printing can be described as "éco-sécurisé", as can the printer itself. Being "éco-sécurisé" is not of itself a method. It is, as Daryo explains, an attribute of a particular method. Some methods have this attribute, others do not. Daryo's suggestion of using "proof" is quite a good representation of that idea. However, if that is what it is about, then the usual term would be "environmentally friendly".

How then to render the idea of "sécurisé"? How about expressing is as "made environmentally friendly"?
Daryo Jul 20, 2015:
@philgoddard have you considered following the footsteps of Art Buchwald - you do have a real talent!
Shilpa Dawda (asker) Jul 20, 2015:
I am sorry Phil, if you felt like playing a game of twenty questions. But I have given all the context I have. The document is regarding printing and multifunction devices. And eco-securisee is a printing method. Thanks for trying to help me out. I had no intention of spoiling your Sunday. I am sorry if I have.
philgoddard Jul 19, 2015:
Shilpa Have you ever thought of a career in espionage? You'd be really good at resisting interrogation. I'm off to do something more profitable with my Sunday, like banging my head against a brick wall. Have a nice day!
Shilpa Dawda (asker) Jul 19, 2015:
Hi Nikki,

It is related to the method of printing.
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Jul 19, 2015:
Shilpa I join the others in asking for more context.
This is what we know :
This part of your document is about the "éco-sécurisation" of multifunction peripherals (MFP). The company in question has other MFPs which are not "éco-sécurisés"and which can scan using one or several of the other methods.

From our point of view, it would be helpful to know what is meant by "other" methods. Presumably it is stated in your document, but we don't have that information, so we are missing quite a bit of the story for this phrase.

Alos, as the company ahs other MFP which are not "éco-sécurisés", then it might help to have other information about those other printers.

Is the "sécurisation" about the components of the peripherals? Is is related to the methods of printing? Of working? Of disposal of either components or the printer itself?
philgoddard Jul 19, 2015:
Shilpa This is a bit like a game of twenty questions - you're not being very forthcoming with context, and you haven't fully answered Tony's questions. Please could you give us several sentences, as we're working in a vacuum at the moment. Thanks!
Shilpa Dawda (asker) Jul 19, 2015:
multifunction peripherals (MFP)
Philippa Smith Jul 19, 2015:
What are the PMF, do you know? Could make a big difference in finding the answer to a not very common term...
Shilpa Dawda (asker) Jul 19, 2015:
It is about the Printing services division of a company
Tony M Jul 19, 2015:
Context? What exactly is the connection here with 'Printing / Publishing'?

What is the overall context, what is the document as a whole about?

This looks to me more like an EDM situation, please can you confirm?

eco friendly

This seems to be the most common translation. Eco safe exists, but is nearly never used in a printing context.
Peer comment(s):

agree Philippa Smith : Or "environmentally friendly". It looks like it can be applied to MFPs, tho' most hits are about a Toshiba product.

neutral Daryo : I don't see any need for using "statistical" methods when this particular ST is clearly about about "security" / being safe for the environment
20 hrs
neutral Nikki Scott-Despaigne : Ditto Phil. Then : "made environmentally friendly" would perhaps be a more accurate rendering of the notion of "sécurisé. When push comes to shove, I reckon that plain ol' "environmentally friendly" does the trick and means the Asker can move on.

made safe for the environment - not polluting the environment with various chemicals used for printing.

strictly speaking it's not a method of printing, it's an attribute/characteristic of a method of printing - meaning that the specific method of printing is "safe for the environment"

Note from asker:
Hi Daryo, Thanks for the explanation, but at client's recommendation, I am using the word eco-friendly.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Nikki Scott-Despaigne : It is tied in to the method though. In the case of the MPFs which are not "éco-sécurisés", other methods are to be used. If made safe for the environment, altho' I note your refs, the usual term for what you dsecribe wld be "environmentally friendly".

yes, some printing methods are "safe for the environment" some are not - IOW it's an adjective qualifying the noun "printing method XYZ" and by association the hardware used; we are saying the same thing, slightly differently worded.
