Eleanore Strauss Jul 10, 2015:
Hooray for women I just saw this... like it much better than the much-used girls ... girl talk etc.
Ramey Rieger (X) Jul 8, 2015:
Man to man would be my translation. This is just an aside to the topic, really. When men speak to one another about private issues, it's called a man to man talk. Or when a father talks to his son, ditto. When women however, talk privately, it's called girl's talk. So, things HAVE changed, although among the gay scene it was always woman to woman, particularly in the seventies.

men for men as an answer to RR's question... ;-)
BrigitteHilgner Jul 8, 2015:
woman to woman I admit it: I wouldn't have picked this because to me this does not sound as natural as "von Frau to Frau". But www.google.de produces more than half a million hits for "woman to woman", so I give in. Maybe the expression wasn't that common when I lived in London ...

Hi Peter Three's a number you can count on.

Thanks, just as non native speaker I wanted to confirm ...

All at once! I guess we agree on this one!

agree writeaway : I'd have the same doubts/hesitations if I were translating into German, my source language. Imo, no matter how well one thinks one knows a foreign language, true gut instinct only exists in one's native language.

Same here, which is why I NEVER translate into German, only into mynative tongue.// Absolutely.
agree BrigitteHilgner : Okay, I accept it - but I admit that I had the same doubts as Peter. :-) // Maybe I'm influenced by the first question, but I immediately thought: "man to man". I find that quite fascinating ...
