Italian term

area anatomica

Italian to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
From a report of a patient undergoing TAVI:

- Ecocardiogramma TT+TE: valvulopatia aortica calcifica con stenosi di grado severo (G med 42 mmHg, G max 68 mmHg, area anatomica 0.37 cmq, area funzionale 0.6 cmq) e insufficienza de grado lieve (+).

I thought that 'area funzionale' was the calculated area. Is 'area anatomica' the effective area?

I would be really grateful if someone could help me understand the difference between these 2.

TIA!

Functional area is also called "effective area". Agree with Anne
Anne Schulz May 14, 2015:
The difference between these two The difference, as I understand it, is that anatomical area is calculated from dimensions, while functional area is calculated from flows (or flow ratios). Both are calculated based on echocardiographic measurements.

anatomic orifice area

I would definitely add "orifice" for clarity.
