German term

HGB Sachanlagen

German to English Bus/Financial Accounting
Hi, I'm looking for some help on the translation of a HGB company report of a German GmbH from German into English and trying to find out what the most accurate English translation is for Sachanlagen (in the HGB Balance sheet - 266) which is under Assets. It appears as follows:

A. Anlagevermögen
I. Immaterielle Vermögensgegenstände
II. Sachanlagen

I know HGB Sachanlagen has been covered in the past on various posts but I just want to revisit/ confirm as I am frequently seeing 2 terms used.

I have seen posts on Proz referring to Property Plant and Equipment (for example in 2002: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/german_to_english/accounting/26834... ) but I have also seen posts referring to Tangible Assets. Also in HGB reference material I have found (such as the Langenscheidt NwB Verlag Business Accounting 2008) and in example translations of GmbH HGB company reports I have found online I am frequently finding the term Tangible Assets being used. Would anyone know under what circumstances each term is/ can be used? or can either be used? (presumably as long as they are used consistently, for example, the same term should then be used in HGB 275 P&L Abschreibungen  auf immaterielle Vermögensgegenstände des Anlagevermögens und Sachanlagen). My gut feeling is to go with Property Plant and Equipment but would like to double check with you all first.

Any feedback/ thoughts/ infos you can share would be much appreciated.

thanks,
Caroline.

@asker Please contact me by mail and I can send you a set of illustrative bilingual German GAAP primary financial statements. Note that sections 266 and 275 of the HGB are mainly used "as is" by Aktiengesellschaften, and that GmbHs will either generally use a condensed version of the standard reporting formats, or add/substitute additional accounts that are more appropriate to the structure of a GmbH, or both.

Haufe ist m.E. einer der besseren deutschen Fachverlage für Rechnungslegung, und ich besitze 2-3 Bücher von ihnen.

In einem Controlling-Wörterbuch von ihnen findet sich Folgendes:

German term (edited): HGB Sachanlagen - Property Plant and Equipment or Tangible Assets?

Fixed assets

I. Investments
A. Intellectual property (NOT properties)
B. Fixed assets
Peer comment(s):

disagree RobinB : "Fixed assets" in German GAAP are "Anlagevermögen" (i.e. what in IFRSs are called non-current assets). The term "fixed assets" is a now deprecated US GAAP term for "property, plant, and equipment". It should never be used as a translation of Sachanlagen.
