PS (po 2 godzinach): sformułowania w rodzaju "wyspowo wznoszące się" są częste w tekstach geograficznych czy geologicznych, ale tutaj wystarczy zastosować prostszy zwrot, np. "peaks rising ... like islands" - jak proponuje MacroJanus. Przy okazji dobrze byłoby na nowo napisać końcówkę zdania (np. dodać stosowny spójnik), żeby nie wyszło, że również "doliny wznoszą się wyspowo".
