operating a lift in emergencies

'integrado' qualifies 'conmutador', not 'dirección. If that were the case, 'integrado' would have to be in the feminine form, since it's 'LA selección de dirección'.
I don't think lifts can be steered so I think it's better to translate 'dirección' as 'direction', because lifts travel in either an upwards or downwards direction.
Elevators are typically controlled from the outside by a call box, which has up and down buttons, at each stop. When pressed at a certain floor, the button calls the elevator to pick up more passengers. If the particular elevator is currently serving traffic in a certain direction, it will only answer calls in the same direction unless there are no more calls beyond that floor.

To be more precise, it's the lift cages/cars that move up and down.

Integrado = integrated or built-in; dirección = direction
As for the whole translation, I think it depends on how you've translated the rest. But, anyway, here we go:
'built-in commutator for closing safety switches and up and down/direction buttons'

Thank you, too! I'm pleased I managed to help.

Comment: "I did ask an engineer friend of mine about this and although his words were slightly different- he suggested installed rather than integrated- the concept is clearly the same."
