Non-PRO English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters General
Thinking back of my research proposal, I realized that there has not been a natural transition from the background section to the literature review section.

I am writing an email to my potential supervisor. Is the above expression "Thinking back of" correct (the research proporal was submitted 2 months ago)? Thanks!
Change log

Nov 4, 2014 12:52: AllegroTrans changed "Level" from "PRO" to "Non-PRO"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (3): Yvonne Gallagher, Tony M, AllegroTrans

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Victoria Britten Nov 4, 2014:
Or "thinking back to"
David Hollywood Nov 4, 2014:
"thinking back OF" is not correct and the correct English is "thinking back ON"
Ms Faith (asker) Nov 4, 2014:
And thank you Phoenix! I think your version sounds much better than mine.
Ms Faith (asker) Nov 4, 2014:
Thank you David and Tana! But, is "Thinking back of my research proposal" grammatically wrong? Thanks!
David Hollywood Nov 4, 2014:
Another option would be: On reviewing etc.
David Hollywood Nov 4, 2014:

I am considering...

I would rewrite the entire sentence thus:

I am considering revising my research proposal to make the transition from the background section to the literature review section flow more naturally.

The reason being that perhaps you may not want to sound as if you have doubts about your proposal. Also, I am always very careful about the use of "NOT, not, etc.". You can say the same thing without sounding negative.
I hope I have made my point respectfully.
Good luck!
