Italian term

Borsa in paviera

Italian to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Bags
I'm trying to find the right term for this kind of bag. I know it is some type of straw bag, but I've been told it is more specific than that and have been unable to find the right English term.

Thanks in advance.

Here's Treccani's definition:

pavèra (o pavièra) s. f. [lat. papyria (herba), der. di papyrus «papiro»]. – 1. Nome region. (settentr.) di piante palustri diverse, come carici, tife, giunchi, ecc

Carici are sedges, tife bulrushes, and giunchi rushes/reeds. I think "rush/reed" is a good cover-all for these types of plants.

So, basket or bag? If you do Google Images for "borsa in paviera", you get lots of pictures of open-top basketwork shopping-type bags, so I think you could use either word.
Peer comment(s):

agree dandamesh : I think paviera is a marsh reed typical of Emilia Romagna, I would leave "paviera" followed by explanation http://www.emiliaromagnaturismo.com/en/traditional-artistic-...
