I am wondering if "in muratura" simply means brick/stone/masonry showers, because it's not a subject I'm very familiar with. It's from a text describing a new range of showers that are especially useful in the instance of "docce in muratura".
Thanks in advance.

This is a difficult one. I know what it is meant: you built the shower compartment using bricks, plaster etc., plaster and tile it, etc. without using a prefabricated shower enclosure. It's just that "masonry shower" sounds odd to my ears.

It seems for showers the type of wall is not important. In the US we'd probably just say 'a tiled shower'.

masonry shower is really not something you hear everyday. Although it does pop-up in translations of Italian sites (http://www.dibaio.com/99-idee-il-bagno/materiali/muratura-e-...
here are instructions for building a "doccia in muratura":

There is no mention of the type of walls in either link. Doccia in muratura simply means that the shower is constructed by exploiting pre-existing walls, which in Italy are typically made of masonry.

: It seems for showers the type of wall is not important. I'm more familiar with Italian kitchen options - "wooden cabinets", "in muratura", and "in muratura finta". In the US we'd probably just say 'a tiled shower'.

That's what I originally thought of posting as an answer... but then I saw Tom's answer and changed my mind. Although, I still think it may be more appropriate, since in many of the pictures of these showers, they are not really "built-in".
