We've got ***raw computer power*** that animals don't have. Animals are not gonna fly to the moon. Intellect is what separates people from animals, not emotion.
I get the basic idea, but cannot think of a catchy German expression. This is for the translation of a documentary on animal rights. I volunteered to translate the subtitles, so I need to keep the translation relatively short. Grateful for any input :)

angeborene Geisteskraft

Der nachfolgende Satz stellt diesen Zusammenhang übrigens noch einmal heraus: "Animals are not gonna fly to the moon."

Discussion
You said "'Hirnschmalz' passt leider nicht ganz zum Stil des restlichen Texts" and I actually thought the same.
But then I was puzzled by the "gonna". It's hard for me to imagine a scientist using "intellect" and "emotion" right after he or she says "gonna". But maybe they're all from "the hood" now :)
BTW: I know that "gonna" is slang. As mentioned above, that is how I got it from the client and direct transcription of what was said.
The question may not be whether man is superior to animals (in a documentary on animal rights, that's usually a bit awkward), but more like:
http://www.wn.de/Muensterland/Kreis-Steinfurt/Nordwalde/2012...
It's about responsibility and about the potential to change. Animals follow their instincts - another important detail. According to the text, they do feel sad or happy but they don't have the ability to exceed their "hardware limitations".
It may be prudent to turn the sentence structure around:
BTW, "style": "gonna" is slang.
"raw" can be in the sense of "brutal", probably close to: "(Of an emotion or quality) strong and undisguised"
http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/raw
But also see:
"Yet, no amount of raw computer power will be intelligent unless it is properly organized."

Last link definitely supports Irene's great explanation, which means in my view: computer power refers to the amount of information or the level of abstraction we can process or use, respectively. "raw" refers to the fact that it is just a potential - whether we actually tap into our full potential or not is the other question.

I refer you to the book "Anthropomorphisierung im Animationsfilm":
The author says that the difference is "komplexe Denkvorgänge" as a prerequisite for "intelligentes Verhalten".
