Spanish term

mucho empaque

Spanish to English Other Wine / Oenology / Viticulture Wine tasting notes
From the tasting notes for a white wine (Spain):

De un paja pálido, con recuerdos verdosos muy limpio y brillante, tiene mucho empaque, predomina la fruta tropical, integrando aromas perfectos, la piña madura, y la manzana el plátano... en boca es muy untuoso, con una sedosidad fantástica.

Thanks for your help!

Presence or personality? I was wondering if 'personality' might also work here, and it does seem to be the more common term, but then I found a reference to 'a wine with presence but without a compelling personality' at http://www.compleatwinegeek.com/essays/boatloads5.html . I'm never sure how seriously to take such language - I mean I drink a fair amount of the stuff, some of it quite good, and never genuinely think of it in that way. Might personality be more coherent than presence? What does it all mean (if anything)?

Why not 'full bodied'? I'm no wine expert, I say at once, but 'full bodied' or 'rounded' are both frequent terms used to describe wines of a... fuller sort. I have not encountered (without, as I say, any specific expertise other than reading an aaaawful lot of labels in the shop...) 'hefty' (ever); vague acceptance of 'substantial' (in league with other winey flutterings); and am quite sure that 'lots of presence' is used - but I do not recal encountering it. 'Full in the mouth' - 'Rounded' - that sort of phrase seems to me to be far more current - or would it apply to some other aspect of wines?

Thank you in all humbleness don't shout at me. Phil.

The moral of the story Not to be confused:

empaque1.
1. m. Acción y efecto de empacar.
2. m. Conjunto de materiales que forman la envoltura y armazón de los paquetes, como papeles, telas, cuerdas, cintas, etc.

empaque2.
(De empacarse).
1. m. Seriedad, gravedad, con algo de afectación o de tiesura.

Unless you mean the definition of "packaging", which would be for a different context to mine.

Sorry if I've annoyed you Phil and thanks for your help but I can't find the dictionary term you mention despite Googling it and looking at other sources, as I always do before posting here.

Please research terms yourself before posting questions When I Googled this, the second hit was a dictionary giving a perfectly good answer to your question. KudoZ is supposed to be a last resort when your research has been unsuccessful.

It means that the wine has character.
Note from asker:
Many thanks, Phil. I saw that dictionary entry but failed to consider "presence" as a possibility for a descriptor for white wine. I'm still unsure what it would mean but perhaps it would be no less ambiguous than the original.

agree Charles Davis : Well, well. I was just about to press the button with precisely this suggestion (which I worked out for myself), together with a remark about things not always being what they seem...

agree David Brown : yes, lots of presence or imposing. From some wine expert's tasting notes--Bramble and cherry dominate this imposing wine while hints of spice and vanilla accent its gentle charm

with punch / vigorous

Wine descriptions certainly put demands on the imagination, so here's a couple of alternatives.

“The classically African combination of meat and fruit requires a wine with punch and in my opinion a touch of rusticity."

A wine with punch and attitude that is bright and exciting to the taste-buds.

It is a vigorous wine with remarkable finesse.

substantial | hefty

it could be a solution, also if the word "empaque" it's commonly referred to the packaging of items.
