"phased" ne signifie ni "par étape" ni "par phases" mais "progressif" dans les procédés techniques (et parfois administratifs)
voir dans le texte : "the ink in the ink flow path is undergoing a phase change". Phase change = modification progressive en français.

Deux modes d'échauffement : le simultané (qui est le mode standard) et le progressif, qui est le mode faisant l'objet du brevet
