Catalan term
Calaix (in context) - not drawer - not ragbag.
Catalan to English
Tech/Engineering
Architecture
In what sense is the author using the word here - any ideas?
"L’efecte del nou carrer era el d’un gran calaix, ja que per raó dels acords altimètrics amb el passeig de Sant Gervasi i l’avinguda del Tibidabo, en posició de mirador, va haver de guardar un pendent constant i poc adaptat al terreny, el qual venia enfonsat."

Thinking about it again, maybe something like 'The new street displayed/gave a boxed-in impression/effect, since due to...'.

I've just gone along the length of the street (thanks to Google Maps) and 'roofless corridor' came to mind.

Comment: ""Boxed in" fits perfectly in the overall context. Thanks."
Discussion
The street in question is the extension to Carrer Balmes built in the early 20th C.
Incidentally, this particular street doesn't appear on my 15-year-old street map :)
Inclined to think it does mean similar to a box but with sloping sides (as Helena suggests)
