I would imagine this means the individual responsible for the students or apprentices-

: A Director of Studies is not 'responsible' for students. His/her role within a college is to manage the curriculum, i.e. all the courses on offer. Asker has explained that this is about a CPD course (singular).

I'd call it. The difference is that a Lehrgang is generally of shorter duration than a Studiengang.

I would use the term 'directorate' beacuse 'deanery' refers very often to the building where the dean is.
