français vers anglais Autre Mathématiques et statistiques Academic paper
Hello all,
I'm translating an academic paper on social psychology, most of which is perfectly comprehensible, however am having trouble with the statistics. Just not sure how to phrase the following: (does it simply mean that inferential tests employed the following method).
Many thanks for any help!
En ce qui concerne les tests inférentiels, il s'agit du SBχ², le ratio SBχ²/df auquel est ajouté le SBΔχ².

As you say! Chi-squared tests were carried out. "df" is degrees of freedom.

P.S. "SBχ²" is the Satorra-Bentler scaling corrected chi-squared statistic.

agree nweatherdon : Sounds likely to me, although to be sure I'd double check that SB is not defined as some other variable

Thanks njweatherdon. Yes, it's worth doing that.

“Confirmatory factor analyses were used to test the factor structure of this newly developed scale. The proposed four-factor model of the Academic-AGS provided an acceptable fit to the data (X² = 772.934, SBX² = 699.453, df = 98, CFI = .969, NNFI = .962, RMSEA=.058). This four-factor model provided superior fit to the data compared to a three-factor model combining mastery and self-improvement goal items into a single factor (ΔSBX² (3) = 1360. 69, p < .001), thus providing further support for the conceptual distinctiveness of mastery and self-improvement goals. In addition, results of multi-group analyses revealed that the Academic-AGS reached partial measurement invariance across students enrolled in humanities (n = 846) and science (n =1009) programs. These results indicated that the Academic-AGS is a consistent measure of achievement goals across students enrolled in different academic programs (X² = 976.618, SBX² = 865.087, df =244, CFI = .970, NNFI = .966, RMSEA=.053).”

Note the very few resources using SBx² though. Nothing in my Dunod book "Statstiques pour psychologues" which does not contain the whole fo the world's resources on stats in psychology of coruse!

THis soruce may help you check if that is what is being meant, particularly if you have data you can put to the test : http://www.uoguelph.ca/~scolwell/difftest.html

I think that from a practical point of view, you will have to retain the annotation used in the original.
