Il Dictionnaire de la langue française Emile Littré, che risale più o meno all'epoca di Monet, definisce nel modo seguente il termine embarcadère: Terme de marine. Cale ou jetée avancée qui sert soit à l'embarquement soit au débarquement des marchandises. Par extension, lieu de départ d'un bateau à vapeur, d'un chemin de fer. De l'espagnol embarcadero, nom du lieu où les Espagnols faisaient leur embarquement pour l'Amérique, de embarcar.
Io perciò suggerirei imbarcadero per mantenere meglio il riferimento alla navigazione, visto che all'epoca il treno era appunto un "bateau à vapeur".
