Pelo que entendi, são hospitais de baixa complexidade para pessoas que precisam de apoio médico e de enfermagem especializados, quando é inviável mantê-los em home care, ou seja, em casa com cuidadores profissionais 24/7.
De um modo geral, destinam se a pacientes idosos (vide link de um exemplo abaixo) e/ou em fase terminal que possa se prolongar indefinidamente.
Esses hospitais NÃO têm recursos técnicos para pronto-socorro nem cirurgias. Qualquer intercorrência mais grave os fará estabilizar o paciente dentro do possível (e costumam ter o que é preciso para isso) e levá-lo de ambulância para um hospital convencional.
