French term

contrôle intra-oral

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng
"contrôle intra-oral à utiliser dans les concerts ou dans d'autres productions sur scène"

This is in a list of wirelessly operated devices in a decree. In the context I feel like this is referring to an earpiece of some sort, especially since the majority of the items listed are types of headphones, but researching "contrôle intra-oral" all I find is dentistry related technology.

Can anyone help me with the proper sense/translation of this term in context? Or is this a mistake in the source text (intra-auriculaire being the intended term)

I found almost the exact same sentence in the DGT TM's:

Applications destinées aux systèmes audio sans fil, notamment: les haut-parleurs sans fil; les casques sans fil; les casques sans fil pour appareils portables tels que baladeurs CD, cassette ou radio; les casques sans fil destinés à être utilisés à bord d'un véhicule, par exemple avec une radio ou un téléphone portable, etc.; les oreillettes utilisées lors des concerts ou autres spectacles scéniques.

-- Applications for wireless audio systems, including: cordless loudspeakers; cordless headphones; cordless headphones for portable use, for example portable CD, cassette or radio devices carried on a person; cordless headphones for use in a vehicle, for example for use with a radio or mobile telephone, etc.; in-ear monitoring, for use with concerts or other stage productions.

Undoubtedly "intra-aural". Although sound can indeed be transmitted through the bone (crunching toast, for example), I would be surprised if wireless telephony would be through the mouth....

or in-ear?

some kind of microphone switch-off that kicks in automatically whenever the actors/musicians are not talking/singing, in order to avoid unwanted electronic noise and possible feedback?

Intra-auriculair is likely. These sort of mistakes are common, after all. I am no "techie" but I do "intra-oral" work in my day job as a massage therapist, so I clicked on your question. Do you know of any intra-orally controlled hearing devices? Something like that would be worth inventing.
