Does anyone know any English expression that can reflect the meaning of this term?
It is said that, back in the colonization days, European conquerors gave little colored mirrors (or beads) to the American natives in exchange for their gold and silver. So, we now use this term "espejitos de colores" when someone is trying to tempt us with something that is actually worthless.
The original sentence reads: "La gente cree que los programas de responsabilidad social de las corporaciones son sólo "espejitos de colores” destinados a obtener el apoyo de las comunidades"
