Behandlung: Beginn einer oralen Antikoagulation mit Marcumar, keine Rhythmisierung.

To restore normal rhythm in atrial fibrillation. Can include cardioversion or drugs. Not sure what term we would use in English.

Thanks, uyuni, and yes, good point about rate control vs. rhythm control. In this case, they'll go for the former, I presume.

disagree Lirka : hmmm...I'm afraid it doesn't fit the context. It's not about the drug...They meant cardioversion.

as opposed to rate control in AF.
Heart rate control and rhythm control are two different major concepts in the treatment of AF. Regaining sinus rhythm by DC cardioversion/synchronized defibrillation or anti-arrhythmic drugs (RF ablation is another option) or just maintenance of comparably normal heart rate irrespective of ongoing AF.
