Glossary entry (derived from question below)
German term
stapeln
Doing a manual for the electronics in a military vehicle and came upon this:
Bild stapeln AUS/EIN
The document is describing the data formats used for various commands, so this is just one bit in a word. No other context is available except that this is associated with a periscope in the vehicle.
Now I have seen the Kudoz with all sorts of stacking and piling. None of that seems applicable here.
Could it be "cascade" as in MS Excel? When you have two spreadsheets open, if you click on Window -> Arrange and then pick Cascade, it gives you both spreadsheets, one behind the other and offset by a little so you can easily switch between the two.
Does this make sense?
All contributions gratefully accepted.
Thanks.
Yours,
cantrell

stack
My first reference actually relates to periscopes.
When measuring distance with a real periscope, you stack two images of the target on top of each other - so the waterline of one image matches the mast of another.
An image stack combines a group of images with a similar frame of reference, but differences of quality or content across the set.
