Spanish term

a la altura del numero 285

Spanish to English Law/Patents Law (general) police report - description of scene of accident/crime
The report is about a roadside accident - the fatality occurred as 3 people walked home at night along a stretch of road and one fell and hit his head.

"A las xx horas se recibe aviso a traves de Guardia de Puertas del Puesto Principal de X, informando del hallazgo de un cadaver en el Camino X a la altura del numero 285 de la localidad de Benitachell."

Is 285 a road number (such as in Britain the A40)?

I'm translating it into British English.

Thanks in advance!

Camino X Hi, and thanks for all contributions. It appears as "Camino" followed by the name of the village in one paragraph. Then "Camino de " followed by the name of the village in the next. Google maps has helped. Keep me posted Billh!
Adrian MM. (X) Jun 19, 2013:
km 285 I thought it was indeed sloppy and slovenly police reporting for km 285. But Billh's and James AW's practical, hands-on approach is right.
Lucy Breen (asker) Jun 19, 2013:
Thanks Tom, it is a stretch of road leading to a village and I had wondered too if it referred to a road marker, but then I would expect to see "km 285"
James A. Walsh Jun 19, 2013:
Have you looked "Camino X" up on Google maps? May be of help to you here. Especially with its "streetview" option...
Billh Jun 19, 2013:
It's not a road number, nor a kilometer point. I doubt it is a house number. I know the place and will be passing by it this morning. I think there is something missing here. Police reports are pretty sloppy in general and usually handwritten. I really can't think what it can be.......

outside number 285

If "camino X" is the name of a street then I'd say its No. 285 of that street/road/ave. etc.

Thanks, Phil :)
agree Marie-Helene Dubois : I've found the name of the road in a newspaper article on the internet and looked on google maps and it's a long road and has houses on it so I think it's safe to assume that this refers to the street number

level with (road marker) no. 285

It's possible that it's a high house number - which, improbably, suggests a very long stretch of road for what must be a village.

Likelier to be a road marker signalling the number of kilometers between 2 large towns or cities.
