well-worn (phrase)

Ево погледајте овде дефиницију:
http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-cobuild/well-worn phra...
„A well-worn expression, remark, or idea has been used so often that it no longer seems to have much meaning or to be interesting.“
Peer comment(s):

agree macimovic : Uglavnom je ovo za fraze, izraze i slicno. Shabby primecujem da se vise upotrebljava za predmete. Shabby house, na primer.

Хвала!
agree Tomislav Patarčić : moj raniji agree nestao? ovo mi je bas zgodan izraz.

Хвала!
disagree Daryo : you are confusing worn-out and well-worn; well-worn shoes = razgažene cipele worn-out = ofucane cipele // ofucani slogan = sav je izkrzan, raspada se od silne upotrebe // nošeno odelo = izdrpano odelo svo u fronclama? mislim da ima razlike u gradaciji..

Не разумем, шта ми то мешамо? Погледајте у речницима дефиницију, ево нпр. овде: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/well-worn 1. Showing signs of much wear or use. 2. Repeated too often; trite or hackneyed.

Paul Tsongas -- a former U.S. senator from Massachusetts who has a reasonable chance to win the New Hampshire primary -- is a far more plausible presidential candidate; but he receives much less media attention than does the cross-burner from Louisiana. But Tsongas and other Democratic aspirants who also have to scrape for press coverage are too responsible to stoop to the shabby words and phrases that bring David Duke his ample notoriety.

Hvala!
neutral Daryo : "too responsible to stoop to..." "shabby" u politici je više u smislu niskosti, jeftine demagogije i sl. " shabby words" ne moraju biti "ofucane od silne upotrebe", naprotiv mnogi političari znaju da budu vrlo originalni kada smišljaju niskosti...

Ne bih rekla da ima veze sa niskostima, značenje je upravo "1. In poor condition through long use or lack of care.". :-)

neutral Daryo : da, ali "ofucana parola" je neuporedivo više uvredljivo/nipodaštavajuće nego "kliše"

shopworn

a shopworn slogan se koristi za ofucane političke parole,
Trite, hackneyed, and shopworn imply over familiarity resulting from overuse or repetition; the terms often suggest reduction of something once forceful to an empty formula or cliché: a trite saying; a soap opera with a hackneyed plot; shopworn slogans.
