Spanish term

se mueven con otras coordenadas

Spanish to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals Future of the pharmaceuti
I'm having trouble trying to work out what this expression means. "They operate in different spheres/environments"?

operate with / in a different frame of reference

Maybe this would do. "Coordinates" doesn't quite work, I think. Could be either "with" or "in", I think.

"Frame of reference" is a gesture towards the original metaphor; sort of using a different map.

Actually "work" would be OK for "se mueven", I think.

"Coordenadas" are points of reference you use to tell where you are and where you're going, and also to map your surroundings. To me, that's the sense of it. It's to do with how these different types of people or entities think about the context in which they operate. The idea is really different ways of thinking about your work, different perspectives and outlooks. "Frame of reference" is an attempt to express this.

companies that employ different resources and methodologies....

I see it that the 'google' generation, rather than using traditional, PHYSICAL, lab based R+D, would apply a more virtual approach. A large part of 'drug discovery' nowadays uses a computer-based modelling approach, based on screening hundreds of potential 'keys' to a lock and key problem. They test (all still in simulation mode before even trying to synthesise the chemical) the physical-chemical properties, theorise about potential side effects, etc. all with modelling.

Maybe the 'google generation' can use their IT knowledge and apply to pharmacy R+D, taking full advantage of the internet's databases (what's already been tried and failed, etc.), calculating power (the internet is billions of CPUs connected together), etc...

Obviously the original is quite up in the air and can be interpreted in a variety of ways.....see what the community think.

Spanish term (edited): que se mueven con otras coordenadas

with different structures

As I see it, if a company is structured differently, it stands to reason that it operates differently, so I think "se muevan" can be left out in the English.
Example sentence:

...empresas que se mueven con otras coordenadas y a otras velocidades.

...companies with different structures and different paces.

(companies that) move in different circles

Another to add to your many suggestions.
I think that the author means that those companies mentioned are at another level but I think that if you use "move in different circles" this could tie in well with the remainder of your sentence ie "move in different circles and at different speeds".
