The Pygmies are considered to be among the oldest inhabitants in Central Africa, speaking different
languages from the Bantu, the main ethnic group of the region, especially in the DRC. Their semi-
nomadic lifestyle has persisted largely unchanged for thousands of years, living from hunting, fishing and gathering wild fruits and nuts. In the last two or three decades, however, under the influence of multiple factors, these populations have gone through a process of semi-sedentarization.
