Danish term

byen netop er sine modsætninger

Danish to English Other Tourism & Travel
This is from an article about Berlin. I can't find a suitable way to translate "byen netop er sine modsætninger". The full sentence is below:

"de mener, at fordi byen netop er sine modsætninger, skal der mere end en omgang byfornyelse til at kastrere den"

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Lawrence

literally (decontextualized) literally (decontextualized):

they believe that, because ***the city just is (a reflection or symbol of) its contradictions, it will take more than one round of urban renewal to castrate it

two variations:

they believe that, because ***the city is just (a reflection or symbol of) its contradictions, it will take more than one round of urban renewal to castrate it

and

they believe that, just because ***the city is (a reflection or symbol of) its contradictions, it will take more than one round of urban renewal to castrate it

my guess would be the first variation

(no idea what the author means with the final part)

Without the discrepancies/contrasts, it simply would not be Berlin

They believe that the discrepancies make the city what it is

The contrasts and discrepancies are simply the hallmark of the city

-- something like that?

precisely because the city is synonymous with contradictions

Precisely because the city is synonymous with contradictions, it takes more than a round of urban renewal to castrate it.
