It often refers to food but not only, see google - wine, radtouren, natur, hotels, spas (Wellness!) are all described as Genusserlebnisse but yes food is a big one obviously. It just seems really weird that we have here a list of 4 things - the first 3 (ausgetauscht, gepflegt und gesponnen) all refer to company staff going to eat in the canteen and communication and then suddenly the 4th one is sposed to refer to kitchen staff creating culinary delights?? Very bizarre! If it is food, I would list the first 3 (...where you can 1, 2, 3..(or 1,2,3 can be done)) while enjoying the great food from our kitchen (staff/cooks etc) - adjectives/nouns can be replaced with whatever you wish - tasty food, delights, varied menu....chefs, cooks etc. Maybe its a buffet, maybe office staff take their turn at preparing culinary delights or special events... who knows?!

I have never heard of Genusserlebnisse referring to anything else but culinary things. Try googling it. And yet, I wouldn't rule out completely that this includes other elements as well. They don't have to be mutually exclusive, in my opinion.

I tend to agree - perhaps food is mentioned elsewhere but here the focus is on the canteen as the "kommunikative Mittelpunkt" - even if it turns out to be about food, I would definitely go for something much more down to earth than the German which sounds ridiculous - the rest of the sentence is fine and I'd continue in that vein.

It is indeed not about food There is nothing in the context of the sentence that would even suggest that. It is the social aspect that this refers to: people talking and creating friendship bonds. Germans are very much concerned with community, not with food per se. Besides, what kind of 'culinary delights' would one find in a company canteen?
Of course you could ask the client for confirmation that he is not talking about food.

Is this definitely about the food? Before I'd read the answers below I was not thinking of food at all - more about the social aspect - socialising, the kommunikative Mittelpunkt, so I'm now totally confused!

My husband and I both agree that this is not about food in all likelihood.

Schaffen at the end means that the employees have a hand in these enjoyments/pleasures, so we thought that was the best translation.

agree Tom Feise : or culinary sensations or delights, but in the "Kantine"? Wow, it sounds more like a Betriebsrestaurant than your normal run of the mill "Kantine" (some of which are even operated by fast food chains) :-)

Agree the last part is slightly over the top...

I translated the whole sentence to show that we may have to make the "Genuss-Erlebnisse" a little more specific. Seems odd to be talking about a cafeteria's merits without mentioning food directly. Otherwise, I have a sense that "pleasurable experiences" will not add much meaning to the preceding info even though it's an appropriate translation for the isolated term.

OR:

"In a delightful atmosphere"
..could be another option..

"As our main communication exchange, the canteen (cafeteria) is a place where our employees cultivate inter-departmental relationships and hatch new ideas in a delightful atmosphere

I can agree to the inclusion of schaffen but only if we change to active form. The German affinity for passive constructions sounds a little awkward in English, IMO.
