Creo que la expresión completa es “survey of studio art practices”. La expresión “studio art practices” hace referencia a prácticas artísticas (dibujo, pintura, fotografía, escultura) en taller (“studio”). En cuanto a “survey” podría traducirse como “introducción” (= “This course introduces the student to fundamental concepts and techniques for…”, primera referencia), “aproximación” o simplemente “estudio/análisis”. En este sentido, creo que “introducción (…)” sería una traducción apropiada.

Overview
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course introduces the student to fundamental concepts and techniques for drawing, painting and sculpture in a variety of medium. It provides exposure to a range of artistic styles and trends, from the traditional to the contemporary. Students will develop critical thinking skills related to the visual arts and will learn to discuss their own artwork and the work of others using appropriate terminology. We will be viewing art in class as well as visiting local art venues. Students will complete a portfolio of two and three dimensional art works for an exhibition at the end of the course.
