English term

without its catches

English to Chinese Medical Medical (general) Snoring treatment
As far as humans are concerned surgery has been known to prevent snoring although it doesn’t come without its catches;First of all in some countries you’ll have to pay for this kind of surgery, at a pretty hefty price too. It’s also known to be a pretty stressful procedure, it involves reducing the amount of soft tissue in your throat and can also involve removing the tonsils. As you can see surgery can be a pretty invasive treatment and pretty daunting for some who are afraid to go under the knife.

第一個句子中的 it doesn’t come without its catches應該如何翻譯?

As far as humans are concerned surgery has been known to prevent snoring although it doesn’t come without its catches;

disagree Rita Pang : An educated guess, but this is so not what this means. Essentially the line means "this method works but it has own shortcomings". Short and simple and that! This has NOTHING to do with the patient catching a cold or any illness.

“Catch" means "drawback," or "gimmic" in this instance.

Yes, I agree. "隐忧" or "隐患" is a better term. Thank you, Fang.

(By the way, the connotion of "catch" is "hidden," "unknown"

"not without its catches" 可理解為 "not without its (some) shortcomings"

Hey jarv95888, yes I definitely agree to your explanation on 弊端. With "catch" however, as much as the connotation is there (Hidden, unknown), we don't need to go entirely by the book in terms of translating it word for word as "hidden". In this case the source makes it clear that "this surgery works, but there could be...." (with the "could be" leading to "high fees", "discomfort", etc). In either case, we can agree on "catch" being something that is definitely NOT positive or presents hindrance of sorts.
