Spanish term

publicitación

Spanish to English Social Sciences Other cultural theory
A text by a Spanish writer about cultural production surrounding AIDS:

Así, a partir del reconocimiento del neo-liberalismo como un sistema basado en el flujo comunicativo extremo y la publicitación y libre intercambio de los cuerpos, podríamos afirmar que el cuerpo del sida –el cuerpo 'enfermo', el cuerpo abyecto– será uno de sus primeros límites.

I think he means making public.

Thanks!

public circulation

Seems to be the meaning here, and to fit the context of the sentence.

Suerte.

agree philgoddard : Yes, I think this is the idea - the body is no longer private, and has become public property.//You could even say commoditization.

Thank you, Phil. My thought exactly. // Or, to avoid the awkward "commoditization," something like "transformed into commodities"....

advertising

I think I see another intention in the original: since PUBILICITACIÓN is followed by LIBRE INTERCAMBIO DE LOS CUERPOS, maybe he refers to HACER PUBLICIDAD, that is to say ADVERTISING or MARKETING (another optional term). This advertising in this case does not mean selling nor anything like that, just making the bodies known, shown, available.

There is another economic reference in the paragraph ("neo-liberalismo como un sistema basado en el flujo comunicativo extremo") which supports this translation option.

Good luck!
