Dutch term

zwaartepunt

Dutch to English Bus/Financial Printing & Publishing
As mentioned earlier today I'm currently translating lists of economic activities (standaard bedrijfsindeling)

eg.

http://www.cbs.nl/nl-NL/menu/methoden/classificaties/overzic...
http://unstats.un.org/unsd/cr/registry/regcs.asp?Cl=27&Lg=1&...

One such listing is: Handelsdrukkerij (zonder zwaartepunt)

I can't work out what zwaartepunt means here. TIA

Sounds like you both agree with my answer :-)
Barend van Zadelhoff Feb 21, 2013:
if you look at the ads from the link below it is more like they are doing all kinds of things, they may be even specialized in all kinds of things, perhaps 'broadly-based' could be an option as well

freekfluweel Feb 21, 2013:
use the opposite (first of all: your links don't work)

"unspecialized" doesn't sell very well, I'd go for "all-round" (or something similar).

Or you could just say "general". It means "focus" or "priority".

These lists are often international. Are you sure there isn't already an English version?
Note from asker:
Hi Phil I've found many of the terms I need in existing (international) lists as you mention. Some terms aren't included in the lists I've located (EU/UN)
Peer comment(s):

agree Jack den Haan : I think I'd go for 'general' in this context.

Yes, I think I would too.
agree Barend van Zadelhoff : agree with Jack, general or broadly-based
