German term

Fahrzeuge sind standardmäßig als repräsentative Geschäftswagen auszustatten

German to English Bus/Financial Automotive / Cars & Trucks
Dies ist ein Satz aus einer Auflistung von Punkten die firmeneigenen Geschäftswagen betreffend.

Probleme habe ich mit standardmäßig und repräsentative Geschäftswagen.

standardmäßig - as a standard the cars are to equipped as... or standardly equipped

repräsentativ - representative (typical) oder distinguished (repräsentativ im Sinne von hochwertiger Ausstattung)

Extras möchte man allerdings nicht haben

Ich wäre Euch für Eure HIlfe sehr dankbar.

Liebe Grüße
Inge

Discussion

Charles Stanford Jan 26, 2013:
I don't think it goes as far as that - they just mean that the cars have to be equipped in way which "looks the part". It seems to be pretty standard in company car-related agreements - I have done 3 of them recently and they have all referred to this
meirs Jan 26, 2013:
repräsentative I guess they mean that they carry the company "livery" - colors, logos, etc. - so that they are identified as cars of the company (represent the company for that matter). Same as for people wearing company uniforms (livery in the 19th century) instead of plain clothes.

equipped as standard in a manner....

"Vehicles are to be equipped as standard in a manner which reflects well on the company" or something like that
or "in a manner commensurate with the company's image and good name"
You are going to have to write around it a bit - we don't really have a ready-made term for "repreaesentive"
Peer comment(s):

agree Anna Preston : Agree, but maybe the additions of 'well' or 'good' could be omitted - so something like 'must be equipped as standard in a manner that reflects the company's image'?

Yes, maybe you are right Anna - something that sounds a bit more natural than what I have come up with, but I think it has to be tackled from that sort of angle

"Vehicles come equipped with standard features befitting a company car."

You might also say:

"Vehicles come equipped with standard features commensurate with a company car."

cars are to be equipped as standard with such features as befit a company car

This is how I'd word it, or perhaps replace "as befit" by "as are appropriate to"
