Any ideas for this would be much appreciated. The sense I think can be gleaned from the following:

'Il ruolo chiave che lo spazio pubblico può giocare nella transizione verso la post-carbon city è connesso alla centralità che esso occupa nella vita collettiva, sia come specchio della cultura pubblica che come maglia ordinatrice delle dinamiche urbane.'

The text makes many references to the fact that public space is an area for socializing. In other words, public space is where all the dynamics of city life come together. I'd really like a neat phrase that captures this so your ideas are welcome
