I took a look at how the term is used outside of mechanical engineering. The clearest use of this term comes from an article about football supporters, who will booh players that do not measure up to their expected standards.
Pasningsmål in general means benchmark (of quality, performance, quantity or measure). That is to say, when I buy a sports car, my 'pasningsmål', benchmark, would be a 911, and I would compare what I purchased to what I expect from a benchmark.
In Norwegian, pasningsmål is also used to describe if an object, person or concept 'fits'. Quickly going from here to mechanical engineering, engineering fit is the mating of two machine parts, which will experience dynamic or static friction against each other. The type of engineering fit describes the characteristics of movement between the two parts, ranging from securely held in place bolts to free moving parts that end up becoming that annoying ping in your car engine.
In this case, there is a loose engineering fit, or sliding fit.
