apparently some sort of low-quality wine which I have never heard of despite sampling quite a wide range of wines! can't seem to find it, even in my wine glossaries and online

: I think it depends on the context. If the wine in question is the Galician wine, I would recommend using the Spanish term and including an explanation in English. If talking about unfiltered, cloudy wine in general turbid wine would work.
