English term

This study is a Phase 3/4, multicenter, randomized, ....etc

English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals Clinical trial
What does 3/4 refer to in this context?
Does it means Phase 3 (out of the four phases of the clinical trial?)

Thanks you B D and Peter You are right, but I was in a hurry. I will re-post this one again with enough context ..
B D Finch Aug 11, 2012:
One term It appears from your explanation that you are only asking about one term. That should have been the only item in the heading, with the context given in the explanation. Otherwise the answered question will be of no real value in the KOG.

Could mean either 1. Phase 3 PLUS Phase 4, or 2. an intermediate stage

Without context, it is impossible to be more certain. The oblique sign (the "/") used to indicate either/or, but is now used more and more to indicate the phrase "as well as".

So:

- either a study which involves both Stage 3 and Stage 4

- or a study which centres on an intermediate stage between Stage 3 and Stage 4 ("Stage 3.5", so to speak)
