Italian to English Medical Medical (general)
in una lettera di dimissione

Discussion

Lirka Jun 29, 2012:
more context is obligatory here.
Rachel Fell Jun 29, 2012:
perhaps you could give a bit more of the sentence/context

clinical findings

It may look like "clinical objectivity" but it just means what the physician observed/found in the physical examination (which in Italian is the 'esame obiettivo') as opposed to what the patient reports as symptoms.

More context, as everyone is commenting (and as ProZ prompts you to enter when you're asking the question) is always helpful. As Linda says, past experience suggests that this is probably what we're talking about in this case.
Peer comment(s):

agree Giulia Gigliotti : Sorry again, I had misread the context (and the question). I agree that clinical findings is what is meant here.

Thank you Giulia.
agree Linda Thody : Yes, absolutely, presuming the "lettera di dimissione" is from a hospital and therefore means the "patient discharge form". More context really is needed, rather than just "Medical" but common sense and past experience lead me to deduce as you have.

Thank you Linda.
agree Rachel Fell : I expect you're right, Joseph - but who knows, with such scanty details?

Hi Rachel, thank you.
neutral Lirka : I think this only includes findings from a physical exam...

clinical objectivity

Joseph already explained its meaning.
I have seen it translated with clinical objectivity sometimes though.

neutral Giulia Gigliotti : Ripensandoci, credo che la risposta dell'altro collega sia la piu' adatta.

objective [diagnostic] findings

"Clinical findings" sounds more familiar to most people, I'd presume. Why didn't I simply agree then? Since I think objective findings is more appropriate for the term includes not only clinical findings on a physical exam, but also imaging results, lab results, pathology reports, etc.

Remember SOAP notes?

Very commonly used ( at least in the US). Google it, or see here ( Univ. of Florida, a really clear ref):
