Context If there is nothing after it, than can you at least tell what part of speech it is — a noun or an adjective? It is possible to use 'project-spanning' as an adjective (hence why nothing after it): "The [bidule] will be project-spanning". Note that in your American-English document, the omission of the hyphen is very likely.
