yes, one associates the word "disc" with a circular piece of metal and maybe the tax disc started off that way? but the main thing is that there is a requirement to display a Tax disc in most countries (usually circular) and in many countries (including Ireland) a roadworthiness disc (circular) and an insurance disc (square in Ireland). These are all paper which are inserted into pockets in a plastic pouch stuck to windscreen. So the discs themselves are not stuck on so they are NOT stickers

Michael Korovkin
: not in Italy. In Italy "il contrasegno dell'assicurazione" is never a "disk" but a square slip of paper, which must be (by law) displyed on the vehicle window.

Michael, this is exactly what this is, a square piece of paper which is torn away from the insurance certificate (as it's perforated to it) .

Quelli che per legge devono essere esposti (su finestrino).
Perdonatemi, ma non sono mai "disks": sono i quadrati pezzi di carta.

Discussion
It may be that the rules have changed in the UK as I seem to remember you only have to display your tax disc on the windscreen. Of course you need an up-to-date insurance cert, license and MOT, but I'm not even sure you are legally obliged to carry them with you (as you are not obliged to carry ID, either). I'll certainly take a closer when I go back over in a couple of weeks!
