French term

prise de participations et d'intérêts

C'est "d'intérêts" qui me pose problème ici!

Merci pour votre aide.

Ok cc in nyc, merci par avance,
ma phrase est la suivante:
La société a pour objet :
-XXXXXXXXXXXXX
cc in nyc Apr 9, 2012:

cc in nyc Apr 8, 2012:
AllegroTrans Apr 8, 2012:
Asker Could you kindly post the compelete sentence and say what the document is exactly

neutral rkillings : What is the difference between 'holdings' and 'interests'? Is there one?

same as the difference between "participations" and "intérêts" I would say; this is lawyer speak, you know - 2 words where one would do ;)

acquisition of holdings and [an] interest

That's all I would dare, unless the intérêt turns out to be participation in management... but we can't see that from the snippet provided.

From Larousse FR-EN online:
prise de participation [économie] acquisition of holdings
http://www.larousse.com/en/dictionaries/french-english/prise...

From Reverso EN-EN:
If a company or business person makes an acquisition, they buy another company or part of a company. (BUSINESS)

acquisitions of participating and other interests

In principle, in this context (one company buying stakes in other companies), "participating interests" are equity interests in other companies above some threshold of significance, say 5% or 10%.

In practice, because interests >50% usually require consolidation treatment (subsidiaries), and interests between 20% and 50% usually require equity method accounting (associates), companies not infrequently use this term for *other* participating interests, i.e. above the threshold of significance but below the associate level; thus, you will see some companies list "subsidiaries, associates, and participating interests". Here it doesn't matter.

The "other interests" would presumably be equity or equity-like interests as well, possibly including things like warrants. Again, it doesn't really matter for the translation what they are.

Well, "directe ou indirecte, sous quelque forme que ce soit" pretty much says that the other interests can be anything at all, including debt (claims on the target company), loans (to the target), assignable contracts (with the target) and so on. Anything that would make the company a related party vis à vis another business.

agree philgoddard : Good solution. Alternatively, you could just translate both 'participations' and 'interêts' as 'interests'.
