French term

travaux d'aménagement intérieur

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
Context: document about health and safety on a construction site.

Désignation de l'affaire: *travaux d'aménagement intérieur*

I don't have any description of the actual work involved, but the health and safety document does mention the use of heavy machinery (lifting machinery, cranes etc.) so this seems to be an actual construction project and not simply 'interior design' (as in adding a few new cushions and painting the walls).

I considered 'interior arrangement' but most sites about this also seem to concern simple interior design.

I'm now thinking of using 'interior build out' or 'interior construction'...

interior fit out

a more commonly used expression perhaps to "internal fitting out" but I agree with both

Google search "interior fit out" gets 1.5 million hits, interior fitting out half a million hits and internal fitting out 67 thousand hits.

internal fitting out

The best solution may depend on whether this specifically relates to finishing of the interior in a new-build project, or renovation / refurbhishment.

However, I'd say this suggestion could well work in the former case, and probably in the latter too.

Note that 'fitting out' is perhaps more often 'agencement', but I think this sort of context it works well for 'aménagement' too, where some of the more specific alternative translations might not be suitable.

interior works

Best to leave it as general as possible. Fitting out generally only covers lighter works, while this might be about demolition/construction/replacement of floor slabs and walls. If this is a renovation, then it could be interior refurbishment works. In any case, it should be "interior" not "internal".

Internal or external in relation to a contract; interior or exterior in relation to a building.
