Spanish term

elaboración

Spanish to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Football (soccer)
Hello. This is from an interview with Del Bosque, the Spain manager, discussing the team's tactical evolution since he became manager:

"-¿En esa evolución táctica hay alguna que destaca?
Por mucho que nos quieran ver como defensivos porque juguemos con Xabi Alonso y Busquets, no creo que sea así.
Son jugadores que juegan por detrás del balón, pero al mismo tiempo son ofensivos, inician el juego, ayudan en la elaboración y también tienen capacidad de llegada."

Thanks for you help
Simon

Simon, you must be worn out from playing all this football. Glad you went off at half-time last night at least :) Happy New Year!

playmaking/setting up/developing the play

Just throwing out options, being from the U.S. and also terms that may be applicable for sports other than the specific one of European football.
I would probably say setting up or developing the play rather than build up, but obviously the latter is common used.
But playmaking is a phrase that would also fit very well, in a more general sense and very common in basketball. It's used for players (the bases in Spanish for basketball) who set up their teammates with passes and control the tempo of the game.
Xavi of Barcelona would frequently be called a playmaker in the U.S.
So would/will be Ricky Rubio in the NBA.
Both are primarily concerned with making the plays that enable their teammates to score rather than necessarily score themselves.
Just though I'd toss it into the discussion.
