Portuguese term

deter-se com propriedade

Portuguese to English Bus/Financial Journalism
Angolan Portuguese, from a newspaper article about the oil industry:

"Segundo Rafael Marques, a Nazaki, empresa na qual se deteve com propriedade, é detida por altos dignitários angolanos... (etc.)"

I'm having trouble phrasing the part that reads "empresa na qual se deteve com propiedade"... any ideas?

Thanks.

Thanks for the additional context I'm still wondering who these "dignitários angolanos" could be. Is there any clue that elsewhere i the text?
Mark Robertson Aug 9, 2011:
I really seems to make no sense. Could "com propriedade" be compropriedade = co-ownership? Even so, it's still a mess.
Monica Villa (asker) Aug 9, 2011:
Here is the whole paragraph: A investigação lançada pela SEC teve origem num estudo conduzido pelo activista Rafael Marques que mostrou que aquela companhia tinha violado leis angolanas e norte-americanas, particularmente no que toca à concorrência e transparência. Segundo Rafael Marques, a Nazaki, empresa na qual se deteve com propriedade, é detida por altos dignitários angolanos cuja Associação à Cobalt no bloco 21 foi feita a custo zero.

More context would help In this case, I think much more context, both before and after, is needed in order to understand the meaning.

Proposed translations

[whose operations] were justifiably put on hold

Two guesses.

"com inteira propriedade" is translated as 'with justification' at:
http://en.bab.la/dictionary/portuguese-english/propriedade

Among the meanings I found for "deter-se": hinder, delay, interrupt, inspect
Something went wrong...
6 hrs

investigated diligently

Deter can mean to inspect / investigate so "empresa na qual se deteve com propriedade" could just about mean, "which he has investigated diligently"
Something went wrong...
