French term

tiroir déstructuré

French to English Other Furniture / Household Appliances Bathroom furniture catalogue
I'm floundering - will need help on many of the items below and will post them in succession. It's the website of a bathroom furniture company. You can see the bathroom set in question here:
http://www.sanijura.fr/FR/component/virtuemart/produit/60/1/...
It's the red and white unit at the top of the page.

Discussion

claude-andrew (asker) Jul 29, 2011:
This is most interesting. It's clear that the term is not well understood, and I've been asking, native French speakers none of whom had the foggiest idea what it means. I may point this out to the company ... I think finally that the "déstructuré here means that it's just sitting suspended under the washbasin with no other superstructure.

destructured/unstructured drawer

A destructured bed re-designed to create a new idea of rest. Dinghy meets your needs for an original and personal refuge.

Here, the term ''destructured'' is used to describe the furniture style:

''Refined lines and originality of destructured furniture....''

But I also found ''unstructured'':

Note from asker:
Thanks for your research - I see now what they mean. It must refer to the drawer under the washbasin. This ties up with Pooja's interpretation.

side-attached drawer

Tough call! Photo helps. If "structuré" can have the sense of "framed" or "within a framework" this is certainly not an integral part of the unit. I don't like "non-integral" – sounds pretty lame for a drawer in a piece of furniture. This my choice of just describing it as "side-attached" or even more simply just "attached"
Note from asker:
This gives me the idea that it might somehow be an independent drawer or as you say attached to the side. Phil: my bottom doesn't stick out on its own ...
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Yes, assuming it's the one at the bottom that sticks out on its own.

Thanks Pooja, this looks fairly convincing. The biligual gautier site is a useful source.

tray drawer

sliding board, etc.

Just wondering if it's a board that pulls out like a drawer, without having sides, front or back to "contain" things.

Same principle as those sliding keyboard thingees that glide under a desktop .... though quite what the purpose would be in a bathroom I cannot see.

Possibly the panel beneath the basin which appears to have a towel on it?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Claire Nolan : Bourth, this seems like a good explanation, but if you look at the other pictures, the yellow and grey bathroom (lichen) also has that panel/board, but the description doesn't mention the ''tiroir déstructuré''.

offset drawer

Though this would normally be used for drawers that are out of vertical alignment, I don't see why it can't be applied to this drawer, which is horizontally out of alignment.

Looking at your picture again, the drawer is out of alignment vertically to the rhs and horizontally to the top.
