âme d'enfant

French to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations description of top jewellery brand
Une femme qui voudrait garder une âme d'enfant.

...about the image projected by a leading jewellery design firm. The rest of the text lists romantic, dreamy, feminine, lyrical etc., in contrast to certain other 'brash' big names in fashion & design.
I would like to avoid sounding clunky or 'childish'...any ideas?

hard to award points, hard to get it right... thank you all for your efforts. I felt I had more leeway with the title and put 'Childhood magic' and then opened the verbatim text with "The little girl inside [me]"
ormiston (asker) May 29, 2011:
Here's fuller context - might help confirm or othe Une âme de petite fille (TITLE)

inner child

The little girl within
A woman who wish to keep in touch with her inner child
no, actually it's because sometimes I am a little, not living in fairytales but well...
All this fairy aspect we keep talking about, which is really present in the brand, it's a little like Tinkerbell, the Peter Pan myth, well it's really this journey back to childhood around a whole universe built around the brand.

J'ai pris la liberté de traduire une partie du contexte afin de mettre en lumière la raison m'ayant poussé à opter pour deux traductions différentes pour le titre et le texte lui-même.

young at heart

Appeals to those who are still young at heart perhaps?

Or maybe even "appeals to the big kid in you/her etc"? Depends on the full context, of course.

neutral polyglot45 : the problem that I see with this is that you are inferring that the woman is "older". Bad in advertising.... "young at heart" tends to apply to older people who still want to feel young but not revert to childhood !

the soul of a child

The direct translationl...soul of a child... says it all. We speak of our "inner child" when we seek to be creative and pure of thought.

innocent

maybe? - or innocence. Thought "forever young at heart" at first, but that's not quite right.

If the precise context is "Une femme qui voudrait garder une âme d'enfant." then something like "the woman who is forever young at heart" might work, though in a list of "romantic, dreamy, feminine, lyrical etc." "innocent" seems OK. Have seen that new context has been provided - will look later.

a woman who holds on to the little girl in her

Hello,

My try for this particular context...

I think in English we may need to add a few more words to make it sound more natural.

I hope this helps.

In jewelry ads in English, you often see "âme d'enfant" referring to the "little girl" in a woman.

All said in my humble opinion.

The heart of a child/childhood magic/the wonderland of childhood

The heart (rather than "soul") of a child has the religious context of innocence

From the added context this seems more a case of a woman who wants to

retain some of the fairytale magic of childhood rather than being oversophisticated or brash.

It seems more magic/fairytale/wonderland (like Alice) than trying just to hold on to the lost innocence of childhood
