Spanish term

apoyos del pasador

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial Motor (piston)
I thought I had asked this one last night. But I did not receive notification of it being succesfully uploaded via a link to "Your Question" nor does it appear if I do a Kudoz search for the term. Strange...

Here is the original context:

"Por abajo el pistón se ve perfectamente limpio y los ***apoyos del pasador*** están perfectos, confirmación de que el pistón es nuevo y con muy pocas horas de uso desde su instalación"

Any ideas which pin is being referred to and what the "apoyos" would be in this case? Sleeves? Housing?
Proposed translations (English)

Berni Re: "I only like to specify when there is absolutley no doubt" that's why I dodn't give it as an answer, just a suggestion in passing.....it's true that htere are many meanings for pasador
Berni Armstrong (asker) May 13, 2011:
Take your pick.... I know Dr :-) I'd been thinking "cotter pin". However, as I couldn't be sure (and my deadline was today) I have now "fudged" it with the vague "pin supports". I only like to specify when there is absolutley no doubt which of the many pins "pasador" refers to is beign used :-(
Neil Ashby May 13, 2011:
pasador has many many defs.... http://www.wordmagicsoft.com/dictionary/es-en/pasador.php
of which many could be correct in terms of a motor.
Eg. no. 5 "cotter pin" might fit the description....good luck

how many pins are near the piston in any case? Surely an engine expert will understand "pins".
Something went wrong...
3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I was hoping for a more concrete term, but this "fudge" will have to do. When there is a degree of dount, I think it is always better to leave it vague, rather than plumb for an answer that might be misleading or inaccurate. They're probably cotter pins, but as I'm not 100% sure...."
